iPhone Applications for Attorneys

02/22/2010

Finally, the iPhone has come out with some great new features useful to lawyers.

Here are just a few:

1. Documentstogo by Dataviz - an all-in-one application with support for Microsoft® Word, Excel & PowerPoint, PDF, Apple iWork and other files. It includes a desktop application (Win and Mac) to provide 2-way file synchronization and a version with support for attachments is also available for Microsoft Exchange e-mail or Gmail users who need to send, receive and edit attachments on the iPhone.

2. Thomson Reuters' Black's Law Dictionary - features the most recent 8th edition of the dictionary, edited by Bryan A. Garner.

3. Court Days - a date calculator app created by Dan Friedlander, a land use attorney. Court Days allows you to quickly calculate the number of court days or calendar days (or a combination of the two) before or after a given date. Because the observance of legal holidays varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction within the United States, the Court Days database contains legal holiday information for over 60 jurisdictions, including both state and federal courts.

4. The Law Pod - a suite of six applications. offers full-text and searchable versions of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Federal Rules of Evidence, and the U.S. Constitution. They also donate a portion of their revenue to provide financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships to law students in need!

5. CardLasso - lets you take a photo of any business card with the iPhone camera, scan the info on the card, and automatically convert it into pertinent data, such as contact information.

6. DocScanner - lets you take a photo of any document with your iPhone camera and automatically convert it to a PDF document.
